Boron Weld Nuts Advance Effective Use of Ultrahigh Strength Steels

Ramco has developed an innovative line of weld nuts designed to assist stamping companies and OEMs with thin, ultrahigh strength steel applications. Initially developed for boron steels, the new nut has enhanced weld projection geometry designed for extra stability during high-current welding.

Many stampers have issues with adhesion of their standard weld nuts to ultrahigh strength steel. Ramco’s RamTek design addresses these assembly issues allowing our customers to reduce weight in their applications.

Manufacturers and stampers who seek to create lighter weight components and increase tensile strength should know Ramco has weld nuts for ultrahigh strength metals. These new nuts are perfect for floor pans, inner door brackets, pillars, cross members, or any structural stamping applications.

Ramco Square Pierce and Strux® Clinch Nuts, for Aluminum

While innovations continue to move forward in steel and all metals, aluminum remains a popular choice  for many applications in auto making, particularly when it comes to weight advantages and flexibility. Manufacturers working in this space should know Ramco’s clinch and pierce nuts can be your go-to choice for these applications.

Our certified Strux® fasteners are great for aluminum applications. The six equally spaced, raised lobes on a Strux® nut create resistance to rotation and push-out during service. The Strux® clinch nut excels in assemblies where welding is not possible or not preferred. Strux nuts are easy to install in different kinds of metal, reduce weight, are made in USA and are perfect for installation in-die.

In addition, Ramco’s square pierce nuts are perfect for non-welding and thin sheet aluminum applications. Employing either of these nuts in aluminum applications helps manufacturers both in forming a particular joint, saving money through inserting nuts in-die, and for use in the manufacturing tool that creates the stamping.

Let Ramco deliver the critical components you need, for any application.

Three Motors, One Part: Ramco Helps Customer with Double-Nut Slider

Ramco has helped an automotive OEM improve process, simplify material handling, inventory, tooling, and reduce the risk of error on the line. We did this by engineering a special adjustable nut for use on three different engines in production.

The 1500 pickup truck is produced with three different motors: 6-cylinder diesel, standard 6-cylinder, and heavy v-8. Each of these has its own tooling requirements and complexity, and the manufacturer came to us requesting different nuts for three different motor mounts. Each of these with its own spacing needs. Instead, we came back to them with a solution: Ramco will create a single, adjustable nut slider to be used on each. Three motors, one part.

This was a big win for our customer as the OEM could have had three times the material handling and inventory, plus the cost of additional dies—and potential costs on line due to the complexity of using different parts. Our adjustable part simplified the line and greatly reduced the risk of an operator using the wrong part, with the stops, removals and repairs that could entail.

There’s a lot riding on every part, no matter how small. Ask us how we can help with your production issues and engineer a solution!

Ramco Receives Recertification of Ford Q1 Preferred Quality Award

Ramco has been recertified for the Q1 Preferred Quality Award from Ford Motor Company. Reflecting Ford’s motto “Quality is No. 1,” this internationally recognized award signifies a supplier’s extraordinary quality. It is granted to companies who meet Ford’s stringent requirements in five areas: system capability, high performance, superior manufacturing processes, delivery performance and customer satisfaction. The recertification process was necessitated by Ramco’s establishment of its new 165,000-square-foot headquarters and plant in Hudson, Ohio. The new facility, on 23 acres, also serves as the headquarters of Ram-Bul, the joint-venture FSP of Ramco and Bulten.

Innovation in Camber Adjustment Nut Saves Money, Saves the Day

Ramco’s Product Development Engineers continually bring value to automotive OEMs—this innovation of the Camber Adjustment Nut is a prime example. The new nut replaces a two-piece design for which the OEM had warranty issues due to part separation. Ramco’s new, one-piece design is stronger, and less expensive due to product cost savings plus a reduction in warranty costs.
